Mater Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista, California
Sanja Jing is a senior at Mater Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista, California. As a first-generation American with a multicultural background, Sanja has dedicated her high school career to advancing racial equity and promoting cross-cultural understanding through initiatives that serve her diverse community. Sanja is founder and executive director of Global Visioneers, a student-led nonprofit organization that addresses the problem of cultural and linguistic barriers by offering free language workshops, cultural exchange programs and international pen-pal initiatives. As the founder and executive director of Global Visioneers, Sanja has played a pivotal role in its growth from a local initiative to an international nonprofit with chapters across four continents. Additionally, Sanja has served as the City's Cultural Arts Youth Commissioner, combining her role with her organization to host the first student-led, city-wide cultural art gallery at the City Hall, which attracted more than 1,000 visitors and sparked conversations about racial identity and empathy. Through Global Visioneers and other advocacy efforts, such as serving as a United Nations speaker/youth advisor, she has further brought a voice to issues from all corners of the world. As Sanja transitions to college, she plans to study international relations and business to continue creating innovative solutions and initiatives that bridge cultural divides and promote global understanding. She believes that by embracing our unique “maps” and seeking truths beyond our own skin, we can create a more inclusive and equitable world.
