Saahil Ray

Saahil Ray is a senior at Newtown High School in Newtown, Connecticut. Saahil created the program 'Diversity Discussions' in the summer of 2020 as he felt students in the Newtown area could benefit from a safe space to talk about social justice. Saahil carried the success of this summer program into the 2020-2021 school year by reviving the club Students Advocating for Diversity and Equity (SADE) at Newtown High School. Saahil has been president of SADE the past three years. SADE has facilitated many school and community events advancing racial inclusion including movie nights, book clubs, high school-wide lessons, lessons at elementary schools and more. Outside of the Newtown community, Saahil also interned at Connecticut Citizen Action Group, where he helped assess food deserts in areas of Connecticut with a high minority population and worked toward creating solutions.
