Bio/Description

Kemi Ojikutu, a junior at Wilson High School in Reading, Pennsylvania, is student ambassador for the Youth Volunteer Corps' Stand Together Against Racism (STAR) initiative. Student-created and student-led, STAR focuses on combating racism within the Berks County community by promoting education and open dialogue. As an ambassador, Kemi has expanded STAR's reach by establishing new branches at local high schools where students can meet regularly to discuss topics related to race and raise awareness about these issues within their school communities. She also has extended STAR's message globally through partnerships with other organizations and campaigns. Kemi actively represents STAR at various community events celebrating cultural heritage, advocating for conversations about racial injustice and encouraging actions to combat it. She helped create and lead STAR projects such as a five-part educational video series on racism, the Ally Workshop allyship training program, virtual and in-person community forums discussing films with themes of social justice and many more. Through her involvement with STAR, Kemi believes she is creating opportunities for important conversations about racism that can lead to change, allyship and activism. The impact of STAR's message has been significant, with more than 600 individuals having signed the initiative's anti-racist activism pledge.
