Nina Zhan is a junior at Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Illinois. As founder of the nonprofit GLAD Academy, she has mobilized 500-plus members across more than 15 countries, raising more than $44,000 in less than a year and a half. GLAD's cultural immersion programs, with courses for five languages, have empowered more than 300 students to overcome barriers. Under GLAD, she has donated 1,410 bilingual books, with audiobooks she recorded, to libraries and schools worldwide. As a bestselling audiobook narrator, Nina was invited to China’s “Read Poems For You” audio platform, which has featured the president of Ireland and the queen of Denmark, with one of her bilingual programs amassing more than a million followers. Nina has hosted multiple global symposia featuring speakers from Mexico, Egypt, Haiti, Pakistan, Belgium, China and Peru, attracting 500-plus attendees. GLAD has funded Haiti's first STEM camp and the construction of an educational building in Haiti, and has donated thousands of dollars to provide STEM resources for underrepresented groups in Nina's own community, benefiting 4,500-plus students along with funding five major racial equity organizations and the International Culture Forum. As co-founder of Words4Wisdom, Nina launched an international e-magazine with 600 reads in two months. As president of GYP Debate, she has funded education for hundreds of children in Haiti, Liberia, China and Cambodia. Nina has been selected to speak at the United Nations (U.N.) Humanitarian Networks and Partnership Week, the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum and U.N. women's rights conferences.
