2020 - TENNESSEE (MEMPHIS REGION)
Keiara Baker is a senior at St. George's Independent School located in Collierville, Tennessee. Keiara has been involved in various school projects that have been instrumental in addressing issues of racial prejudice, including as a leader of the MySpaceAlliance Club. The club was founded to allow peers to vent and provide a chance for its leaders to address issues with the faculty. Keiara also was involved with creating days to heal her school. Days on Pause address similarities and differences in each of us. These days include activities such as active listening and team-building exercises. Keiara planned these events with peers and administrators to make sure that the day was effective for everyone in addressing the exclusion of individuals and effects of prejudice. This work will be sustained through her next project, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Task Force, which addresses issues of discrimination and prejudice affecting the school that are otherwise unlikely to be resolved.
