Baker High School in Mobile, Alabama
Ethan Gwinn is a senior at Baker High School in Mobile, Alabama. He is the founder and social media director of Mobile for Palestine, the first Palestinian advocacy-based group in the Mobile area. Since its founding, Ethan has organized and led more than 10 peaceful ceasefire protests and community events — including documentary screenings, cultural festivals and food donation drives — across Mobile, Foley, Pensacola and New Orleans. The initiative has raised more than $8,500 for Palestinian refugees and crisis relief, uniting diverse communities in sustained advocacy for Palestinian justice. Through speechwriting, media engagement and regional collaborations, Ethan has helped build a coalition rooted in collective liberation. On a local level, Ethan also founded his school's Multicultural Club, guided by the motto "One Class, Many Cultures," to create a safe and celebratory space for students of all backgrounds. The club's flagship event, Culture Day, brought together hundreds of students and teachers in traditional clothing, performance and storytelling, fostering pride and visibility for marginalized identities. Under the leadership of Ethan and his fellow officers, the club also pushed for stronger school responses to hate speech and led quarterly workshops addressing racism, cultural marginalization and identity. With more than 160 members, it continues to serve as a space for belonging, solidarity and student-led change. Ethan’s work reflects his deep commitment to protecting diversity, equity and inclusion, promoting anti-racism and cultural awareness and using advocacy to empower his peers and uplift historically silenced voices.
